Unique Coordinated Care is Key Differentiator for OC Soccer Club Players

In late January, Hoag Orthopedic Institute and ProSport Physical Therapy and Performance announced their partnership, but they have been providing coordinated care to the Orange County Soccer Club for some time now. Both HOI and ProSport are well known in Orange County for providing superior outcomes in their comprehensive rehabilitation services for all patients, including professional and top-performing athletes.

This unique coordinated care has been a key differentiator to the OC Soccer Club players because they don't have to go far for their on or off-the field orthopedic care.

“Everything is one place from speaking with one of the team doctors, to physical therapy to performance training,” shared OCSC defender and 10-year professional soccer veteran Kevin Alston. “I can chat with the team docs and they’ve already spoken with the trainers at ProSport, so when I come in, I can do physical therapy and the team training in one place. It’s one stop that has everything you need to get faster, stronger and back on the field quicker.”

HOI's partnership with ProSport was a strategic move to ensure patients and professional athletes alike receive a consistent patient experience throughout their journey to recovery and back to doing what they love.

“Since physical therapy is an essential component of the continuum of care for orthopedic patients, partnering with a like-minded rehabilitation provider to further expand our seamless approach to musculoskeletal patient care and performance services seemed a logical next step,” said Jennifer Mitzner, HOI Chief executive Officer. “Our goal is to continue improving care coordination between the surgical experience and rehabilitation so our orthopedic patients can return more quickly to sport, work and life.”

Athletes like Alston, who have played for several major Major League Soccer and professional teams throughout his career, as well as Division one soccer at Indiana University, know the difference in experiencing coordinated care.

“At this point in my career, I recognize it’s crucial to identify my strengths and also identify areas around any injury to strengthen those muscles and prevent further injury,” Alston said.

And, given the emphasis that ProSport puts on performance training athletes and weekend warriors receive the added benefit of gaining insight and training programs to help improve performance and avoid over-use injuries. Alston shared that his off-the-field work consists of added “activation and band work to strengthen my glutes to prevent hamstring injuries down the line.”

“I know that to be a pro, you have to train like a pro, and that is on and off the field. You also have to think about injury prevention in order to stay healthy and listen to your body,” Alston added. “I’m grateful for the whole team around us and that includes our team doctors at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, and our trainers at ProSport. Staying strong off the field will keep you strong on the field.”
