Helpful Resources for Our Patients

We at Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) realize that seeking orthopedic or spine treatment can be a stressful experience for some of our patients. This is why we offer various resources to our patients and their families to guide them during each stage of their journey. In fact, we also assign each patient a Nurse Navigators for additional support.

  • Find a Doctor

It’s important that you find a doctor or surgeon that is right for you and is specially trained to treat the condition you’re experiencing. Our doctors are fellowship trained and our staff is specially trained in specific areas of orthopedic and spine care so you can rest assured that you will be in expert hands.

  • Pre-Surgery Prep and Education

Once your surgery is scheduled, you will attend or view online classes to prepare you and your loved ones for surgery and for what to expect after surgery.

  • Pre-Admission Screening

After scheduling your surgery, a member of our Pre-Admission Screening Team will contact you to ensure you have the appropriate paperwork filled out, screening tests completed, and the appropriate directions on where to go for these appointments.

  • Day of Surgery

Once you arrive at Hoag Orthopedic Institute and go through the appropriate screening at the front, you will be greeted by our Registration team who will guide you through the next steps, and show your support person where to wait during surgery.

  • Post-Op Care for Same-Day Surgery

You will be cared for by the post-op care team including dedicated orthopedic nurses and Physical Therapists who will ensure you have met your milestones for discharge and that your support person is ready to take you home for recovery.

  • Post-Op Care for Patients requiring an Overnight Stay

If you require an overnight stay, you will be taken to a dedicated patient room outfitted with luxurious amenities to ensure your comfort during recovery. You will meet a team of dedicated orthopedic nurses and physical therapists who will ensure you are recovering well and meeting your milestones for discharge to get you back to you.

  • Discharge

At discharge, patients will be given an amenity bag with items to support recovery and a thank you note from your care team.

  • Post-Discharge

In addition to your scheduled post-op visits with your Doctor, our team members will check in to see how you’re doing with a post-op survey, postcard and calls to ensure you’re on your back to doing what you love.
