On Wednesday, November 1st, more than 140 students from Portola, Edison, Middle College and Canyon High Schools interested in pursuing careers in athletic training and sports medicine streamed into the auditorium at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine to be entertained and educated during a mock surgery, injury reenactment live-action ‘play’ – Back to Play – aimed at giving them a fuller understanding of the entire continuum of care – from injury on the sports field, to consultation, to surgery and recovery. All students in attendance were selected by Vital Link, a local non-profit that provides hands-on, career exploration experiences for high school students. Hoag Orthopedic Institute and Hoag Foundation partnered with Vital Link to host and sponsor the event in hopes of encouraging and inspiring kids with an interest in science and medicine to pursue their dreams.
