Who We Are

Our Vision

We will be the trusted leader in musculoskeletal care, recognized for our superior outcomes.

Our Mission

To optimize the musculoskeletal health of individuals and their communities.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute was developed through a unique partnership between Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and a select group of Orange County based orthopedic and spine doctors with many years of experience providing care exclusively for orthopedic and spine patients. After years of careful and dedicated planning, the organization has successfully combined the ideas and experience of the best hospital in Orange County, Hoag, with the knowledge, skills and experience of some of the top orthopedic and spine physicians in their field.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is one of the only specialty hospitals in the United States caring exclusively for orthopedic and spine patients. Our goal is to restore, improve and enhance the health and mobility of individuals with musculoskeletal conditions and diseases through excellence in care and outcomes, clinical innovation, research and advocacy.

The Hoag Orthopedic Institute facility, located at 16250 Sand Canyon Avenue in Irvine, has 70 beds and nine operating rooms designed and equipped specifically for orthopedic and spine cases. All staff and physicians are highly educated, trained and experienced in the diagnoses associated with the orthopedic and spine patients. The physicians at Hoag Orthopedic Institute are all Board-Certified orthopedic and/or spine surgeons, and the nursing staff is trained specifically in orthopedic and spine surgical care. Other hospitals care for a variety of patients, but at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, we are 100% dedicated to orthopedic and spine patients, therefore our patients receive the very best care from our expert HOI Team.

In addition, the patient-centered focus Hoag Orthopedic Institute ensures that patients can experience a calming, healing environment. A unique and very significant part of the healing environment are the Nurse Navigators, assigned to each inpatient as a personal guide from the moment they decide to pursue surgery, through the surgery itself, the physical therapy, discharge and ongoing care. The physical surroundings are designed to be healing as well, incorporating feng shui elements and attention to keeping the noise level at a minimum.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is affiliated with four accredited outpatient surgery centers located in Newport Beach, Orange, Mission Viejo and Marina del Rey, which are all dedicated to the care of orthopedic and spine patients. We are one out of three hospitals in the state selected to develop a statewide registry program, and we are unique as well in developing a value-based episode of care program for payment.

While we have achieved our goal of developing a patient-centered, value-based facility for orthopedic and spine diagnosis and care, we continue to improve and grow by always pursuing better patient care through a number of major initiatives.

Physician Relationships - Positioning Statement

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (“HOI”) is committed to transparency and the proper disclosure of our physicians’ affiliations with different health care companies, especially medical device companies. As one of the only specialty hospitals in the United States caring exclusively for orthopedic patients, our physicians are committed to finding the latest advances in patient care, clinical innovation, research and advocacy. As part of this commitment, there are instances where our physicians are approached by medical device companies to provide their time and expertise to create and improve products for patient care and these companies often provide compensation to our physicians for their efforts. Compensation could be in the form of consulting fees, royalties related to sales of a product, or other forms of payment.

HOI physicians are devoted to finding new, improved ways to treat our patients. However, we understand that some of these industry relationships could create a conflict of interest. HOI works with our physicians to provide transparency and honesty when addressing different affiliations with medical device companies. If your health care involves the placement of a medical device, we encourage you to ask about which product might be best for you and to ask about our physicians’ affiliations with different medical device companies. You may also ask to read HOI’s policy on physician-industry relationships.

If you have any questions about your care or would like to learn more about HOI’s policy on physician relationships with the medical device industry, please contact HOI’s Compliance Department at (949) 727-5020.
