Four New Orthopedic Surgeons Added To Medical Staff

Hoag Orthopedic Institute, one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, has announced that it has added four orthopedic surgeons to its medical staff.

“We are excited to welcome our new medical staff to Hoag Orthopedic Institute,” said Steven L. Barnett, M.D., chief medical officer of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Hoag Orthopedic Institute has utmost confidence that our new orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physician will be able to add to our collective high-quality care notability, high standards and superior patient outcomes.”

The new Hoag Orthopedic Institute medical staff are:

Orthopedic Surgery – Arthroplasty:

• Michael Hunter, M.D. – Dr. Hunter graduated summa cum laude from Loyola Marymount University where he received his Bachelor of Science in biology. He then completed his Doctor of Medicine at Loma Linda School of Medicine. Dr. Hunter then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Greenville Health System. He then completed his joint arthroplasty fellowship at Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Additionally, he completed a trauma fellowship at Auckland City Hospital and a sports fellowship at Unisports New Zealand. Dr. Hunter is currently a physician at Newport Orthopedic Institute.

Orthopedic Surgery – Hand Surgery:

• Joanne Zhang, M.D., M.B.A. – Dr. Zhang attended Yale University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history of science and history of medicine. She then received her Master of Business Administration at UCLA Anderson School of Management. Dr. Zhang completed her Doctor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. She then attended Boston University Medical Center where she completed her residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Zhang attended University of Chicago and completed a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship. Dr. Zhang is currently a physician at Newport Orthopedic Institute.

Orthopedic Surgery – Foot and Ankle:

• Omar Yaldo, M.D. – Dr. Yaldo received his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Oakland University. He then went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Dr. Yaldo finished his orthopedic surgery residency at Spectrum Health/Michigan State University. He then finished his foot and ankle fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Yaldo is currently a physician at Newport Orthopedic Institute.

Orthopedic Surgery – Spine:

• Alexander Richter, M.D. – Dr. Richter completed his Doctor of Medicine at Albany Medical College. He then went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. He then finished his spine surgery fellowship at Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Richter is currently a physician at NewportCare Medical Group.
