Hoag Orthopedic Institute Adds Three New Orthopedic Specialists

Hoag Orthopedic Institute, one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, has announced that it has added two orthopedic surgeons and a sports medicine physician to its medical staff.

“We are excited to welcome our new medical staff to Hoag Orthopedic Institute,” said Steven L. Barnett, M.D., chief medical officer of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Hoag Orthopedic Institute has utmost confidence that our new orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physician will be able to add to our collective high-quality care notability, high standards and superior patient outcomes.”

The new Hoag Orthopedic Institute medical staff are:

Orthopedic Surgery – Total Joint:

  • James Benjamin Chen, M.D. – Dr. Chen graduated cum laude from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he received his Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Chen completed his orthopedic surgery residency at UCLA followed by his arthroplasty surgical fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Dr. Chen is currently a physician at South County Orthopedic Specialists.

Orthopedic Surgery – Hand Surgery:

  • Daniel J. Gittings, M.D. – Dr. Gittings attended Providence College for degrees in both biology and chemistry, where he graduated summa cum laude. He completed his Doctor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, where he graduated cum laude. Dr. Gittings attended University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he completed his internship in surgery, residency in orthopedic surgery, and fellowship in hand surgery. Dr. Gittings is an orthopedic hand surgery physician at Orthopedic Specialty Institute.

Sports Medicine:

  • James Suchy, M.D., CAQSM – Dr. Suchy received his Bachelor of Arts in public health from University of California, Berkeley, graduating magna cum laude. He completed both his Doctor of Medicine and Family Medicine Residency at University of California, Irvine followed by his primary sports care medicine fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University. Dr. Suchy is a primary care sports medicine physician at Hoag Medical Group.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is comprised of a specialty hospital in Irvine, Calif., and four ambulatory surgery centers in Newport Beach, Mission Viejo, Orange and Marina Del Rey. HOI has more than 300 physicians on staff, including more than 80 orthopedic specialists.
