HOI Named Among the Two Percent of Hospitals Nationwide to Earn Five-Star Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Rating

IRVINE, Calif. [August 3, 2016] Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, is one of the few hospitals in the U.S. to receive a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) after an assessment of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide through its ‘Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating’ system.

The hospital is one of just 102 in the U.S. to earn the top, five-star distinction for quality which is issued annually through CMS’ Hospital Compare tool. It is Orange County’s only five-star rated hospital and one of only two in all of Los Angeles and Orange Counties to earn the designation.

“We’ve strived to create a culture of empowerment and excellence at Hoag Orthopedic, and these accolades are a continual validation of the commitment our entire staff has to patient-centered care,” said Dr. Carlos A. Prietto, president and CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “We’re honored to receive CMS’ highest rating and I’m confident that our exemplary staff will continue to help us reach new heights.”

According to CMS, the ‘Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating’ is designed to help individuals, their family members, and caregivers compare hospitals in an easily understandable way

“We applaud CMS for their efforts to improve transparency and are confident that these ratings will help those in need of medical services to make more educated decisions,” added Dr. James T. Caillouette, Chief Strategy Officer of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “As more individuals begin paying closer attention to outcomes scores and ratings like these, we’re confident that HOI will continue to thrive.”

Hoag Orthopedic Institute, the highest volume provider of joint replacements in California, has received consistent recognition from various publications and health care organizations for its patient-focused services since opening in 2010. This designation comes shortly after receiving Modern Healthcare’s ‘Best Places to Work in Healthcare’ designation and Consumer Reports’ ‘Highest Rated Hospital’ designation for hip and knee surgery.
