Hospital Instrumental in Developing System to Identify and Track Measurements that Matter Most to Patients

IRVINE, Calif. [July 14th, 2016] Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, recently attended The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) value-based health care conference in London as a sponsoring partner, to present the international standard set for the measurement of hip and knee osteoarthritis outcomes that matter most to patients.

The hospital, represented by Dr. James Caillouette and Dr. Nader Nassif, was part of an international panel that meticulously crafted an orthopedic standard set of key metrics which were yielded after countless hours of collaboration between patient advocates and nearly two dozen physicians from all over the world.

“More than 25 million adults suffer from osteoarthritis in the U.S. alone, and this truly unique, international and patient-empowering collaboration has yielded a standardized means for clinicians worldwide to ensure that our version of success is fully aligned with our patients’ version,” said Dr. Caillouette, Chief Strategy Officer of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “We strongly believe that this will emerge as the future of outcomes reporting and measurement and we are honored to have played an integral part in its design.”

The 2016 ICHOM conference was the fourth, the largest and the most diversely represented, with clinical specialists from across the world presenting their findings and recommendations for further refining value-based health care through outcomes measurement.

“Patient reported outcomes are critical to moving us toward our goal of providing the highest quality care possible for our patients,” said Dr. Nader Nassif, Hoag Orthopedic surgeon and co-author of the ICHOM osteoarthritis standards. “Everything we do is constructed around the goal of getting our patients back to their lives as quickly and pain-free as possible.”

Hoag Orthopedic Institute has been a Sponsoring Partner of ICHOM for several years and is intimately involved in the development of orthopedic standards of care. For more information, please visit:
