James H. Ting, M.D.

About Dr. James H. Ting

Dr. Ting is a board-certified Primary Care Sports Medicine physician who specializes in helping to prevent injuries, diagnosing and treating sports-related, overuse or trauma-related orthopedic injuries with non-operative treatment plans customized for each patient.

Prior to joining Hoag Orthopedic Institute and Newport Orthopedic Institute, Dr. Ting served on the faculty staff at his former residency program, where he was the director of the Sports Medicine program and clinics, as well as being heavily involved in the education and training of medical students and resident physicians in both Sports Medicine and Family Medicine. Teaching has been an important and rewarding aspect of Dr. Ting’s clinical experience, and he was recognized by his students with the Teaching Excellence Award at his former practice. He also holds an appointment as a voluntary clinical instructor with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

As his practice’s first Primary Care Orthopedic and Sports Medicine specialist, Dr. Ting brings with him several years of experience in providing care for both elite and recreational athletes of all ages.

“My goal, and what I enjoy most about being a Sports Medicine physician, is being able to help the injured athletes and patients that I treat return to their sport or activity as quickly, but as safely as possible.”

Dr. Ting has served on the medical staff for international events such as the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, as well as other events such as the Los Angeles Triathlon, the Long Beach Marathon, and several NCAA Conference Championships. He has been a team physician for local area high schools, colleges, and universities for many years, and he most recently served as a team physician at the NCAA Division 1 level for the California State University, Northridge and the team physician for UCLA, Sage Hill High School in Newport Beach, CA. He also works with the LA Triathlong and is one of the medical team physicians for the LA Chargers.

In his spare time, Dr. Ting enjoys being active and working out, as well as playing basketball, golf and tennis.
