Dr. Jonathan Kaplan is an Orthopedic Surgeon with a focus on
foot and ankle surgery as well as sports injuries. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr.
Kaplan attended college at Illinois Wesleyan University where he graduated
Cum Laude majoring in Chemistry and Spanish. He attended the University
of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating with honors as well as being
selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, The
Chancellor’s Student Service Leadership Award, and the Alumni Student
He then went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Los
Angeles County / University of Southern California Medical Center. During
this time, he was selected as an American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society
Resident Scholar, an American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leader
Program Scholar, and earned the USC Senior Outstanding Research Award
for his research on Achilles tendon ruptures. After residency, Dr. Kaplan
completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Mercy Medical
Center Institute of Foot and Ankle Reconstruction with world renowned
surgeon Dr. Mark Myerson as well as Dr. Clifford Jeng, Dr. John Campbell,
and Dr. Rebecca Cerrato. He is currently an associate of the Orthopaedic
Specialty Institute in Orange, as well as an attending surgeon at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Orange and at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in
Irvine. His research interests include foot and ankle injuries in the
athlete, ankle arthritis, great toe arthritis, and malalignment / deformities
in the foot and ankle. Hobbies include hiking, golf, weight lifting, and
cooking. He especially loves animals, most notably his English Bulldog Carl.
