HOI to Host Anterior Hip Foundation Traveling Fellows for Second Consecutive Year

  • Posted On:

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the nation’s leading providers of orthopedic and spine care and the West Coast’s leader in joint replacement surgery, will host the Anterior Hip Foundation’s Traveling Fellowship program for the second consecutive year from May 22-24, 2026.

The Traveling Fellowship offers early-career orthopedic surgeons the opportunity to refine their technique, expand their perspective and connect with leaders shaping the future of hip replacement surgery. The program combines OR observation, mentorship and participation in the world’s premier anterior hip event.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is one of a handful of sites hand-chosen nationwide to host the program’s track of fellows. Fellows travel across the United States to observe advanced cases, exchange ideas with world-class mentors and experience diverse surgical settings firsthand.

“We are pleased to have the honor of mentoring the 2026 fellows while showcasing the latest advancements in anterior hip approaches currently in practice at HOI,” said Robert S. Gorab, MD, an early adopter of anterior hip replacement and chairman of the Hoag Orthopedics joint arthroplasty fellowship program. “Through observation of complex operating room cases, fellows will gain real-time insight into best practices in anterior hip replacement surgery and the latest standards of care.”

The orthopedic fellows will visit HOI and be mentored by HOI surgeons and arthroplasty leaders including Robert S. Gorab, MD; Jay Patel, MD; Steven Barnett, MD; Nader Nassif, MD; Michael Hunter, MD; Travis Scudday, MD; David So, MD; and other HOI joint replacement surgeons.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is the highest-volume anterior hip replacement center on the West Coast and a visitation site for outside surgeons seeking to learn the procedure. HOI surgeons have been performing anterior hip arthroplasty since 2007 and have trained hip surgeons through the Hoag Orthopedics Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Fellowship since 2012. Additionally, HOI is a referral center for complex primary and revision anterior hip replacement on the West Coast.

“Hosting the traveling fellows for a second consecutive year reflects HOI’s ongoing commitment to education, innovation and advancing the field of joint replacement surgery,” said Dr. Patel. “This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for mentorship and professional growth while advancing excellence in anterior hip arthroplasty.”
