About Dr. Jonathan R. Kaplan

Dr. Jonathan Kaplan is on the forefront of minimally invasive bunion correction, arthritis treatment, and deformity correction. Dr. Kaplan was selected as a pilot surgeon for the PROstep™ Minimally Invasive Bunion Correction and also serves as an instructor for these techniques on both a local and national level. He has been featured on the nationally televised show The Doctors as well as local radio station AM830 discussing his experience with these innovative and cutting-edge techniques for bunion correction.

Dr. Kaplan is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery. He is a partner at the Orthopaedic Specialty Institute in Orange and on staff at Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Kaplan has a passion for working with athletes as well as minimally invasive surgery of the foot and ankle including minimally invasive bunionectomy, minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair, arthroscopy of the ankle / subtalar joint / hallux (big toe), and other small joints of the foot.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Kaplan attended college at Illinois Wesleyan University where he graduated Cum Laude majoring in Chemistry and Spanish. He attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating with honors as well as being selected for the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society, The Chancellor’s Student Service Leadership Award, and the Alumni Student Service Award. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the Los Angeles County / University of Southern California Medical Center. During this time, he was selected as an American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Resident Scholar, an American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leader Program Scholar, and earned the USC Senior Outstanding Research Award for his research on Achilles tendon ruptures. After residency, Dr. Kaplan completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Mercy Medical Center Institute of Foot and Ankle Reconstruction with world renowned surgeon Dr. Mark Myerson as well as Dr. Clifford Jeng, Dr. John Campbell, and Dr. Rebecca Cerrato.
