A hospitalist is a physician whose primary focus is caring for patients who are admitted to the hospital. These patients are treated by their assigned hospitalist only while they are staying in the hospital. Post-care treatment is provided by either their primary care physician or a specialist for follow-up care after being discharged from the hospital.
