2025 HOI Sports Medicine Conference Highlights Injury Prevention & Treatments

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) hosted the third annual Sports Medicine Symposium at Chapman University on Friday, June 13, 2024. More than 100 athletic trainers and physical therapists came together for a day of continuing education and hands-on participation for the latest in injury prevention and treatments.
The conference featured a diverse range of topics crucial to the field of sports medicine including several small group breakout sessions, hands-on learning and interactive discussions.
“We are proud to partner with Chapman University as well as our keynote speaker, head Chargers ATC Salvador Lopez, to discuss the latest advancements in injury treatment and prevention, that our trainers and therapists can apply in the field,” shared HOI Division Chief of Sports Medicine and orthopedic sports medicine surgeon David Gazzaniga, MD.
Physicians from Hoag Orthopedic Institute, Hoag Medical Group as well as Certified Athletic Trainers and Dieticians from Chapman University and other colleges provided expertise and valuable insights including practical advice as well and scenario-based trainings. Topics included Emergency Action Plans, Dangers of the Heat, Nutrition, Asthma Attacks, case studies and a presentation on acute spine injuries from Hoag Orthopedics fellow and spine surgeon Casey Slattery, MD.
