Spine Leaders Attend 2nd Annual HOI Spine Symposium
More than 100 leaders in spine care including orthopedic spine surgeons, nurses, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners attended the 2nd annual Hoag Orthopedic Institute Spine Symposium. Held at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, the event featured keynote speaker Gregory Mundis, Jr., MD, from Scripps in La Jolla, Calif., who presented on adult deformity surgery. Dr. Mundis Jr., is a renowned spine surgeon who specializes in pediatric deformity and adult reconstruction surgery.
HOI’s Division Chief of Spine Surgery, Dr. Jeremy Smith, moderated the opening symposium discussion and fellow HOI affiliated spine surgeons Drs. Jon White, Michael Gordon, Richard Lee, Jeffrey Deckey and Gerald Alexander, moderated discussions amongst their colleagues across HOI, Hoag, Providence, other California physicians and former spine fellows from Hoag Orthopedics (the research and education division founded by HOI surgeons).
“Our 2nd annual HOI Spine Symposium was a fantastic event discussing the latest spine surgery innovations and techniques with an emphasis on deformity, with my fellow surgeon colleagues,” shared Jeremy Smith MD. “It was great to build on our inaugural event last year and have our former Hoag Orthopedics’ spine fellows grow in number as well.”
HOI’s Spine Symposium program presenters shared advancements related to complex spinal surgery, deformity surgery, motion preservation, discussions on robotics and technology, advancements in minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, cervical disc replacement and spine surgery in the ASC setting. Kushagra Verma, MD also presented on spine outreach and his upcoming trip with Dr. Smith to serve communities in Ghana, Africa.
