HOI Reaches 1000 Robotic Surgery Milestone in Two Years

  • Posted On:

Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the nation’s leading providers of orthopedic and spine care as well as the volume leader in hip and knee replacement surgery in the Western United States, has reached a milestone by performing more than 1,000 robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries over a two-year period.

“One thousand procedures is a major milestone and in just this year alone, we’ve helped countless individuals regain mobility using our robotic-assisted surgical platforms,” said Nader Nassif, M.D., Division Chief of Joint Replacement at Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Robotics provide increased precision in knee and hip replacements using preoperative planning, enhancing surgical accuracy and leading to greater precision, faster recovery and improved outcomes.”

Robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery at HOI combines the expertise of the hospital’s renowned, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons with advanced robotic systems. Surgery is planned and performed with assistance from a robotic system. These systems do not replace the surgeon but rather act as highly sophisticated tools to enhance the surgeon’s capabilities. There are 10 orthopedic surgical robots in use at HOI and its affiliated surgery center network.

“Reaching 1,000 robotic cases in a relatively short period of time, with our numbers more than doubling over the last two years, affirms that HOI’s leadership in joint replacement surgery includes offering patients the newest and best technology in orthopedics ,” said Kim Mikes, MBA, RN, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “Robotic technology is an important component of our focus on innovation, offering our patients technologies that can help them get back to their everyday activities faster.”
