Hoag Orthopedics Announces New Fellows For 2025-2026

Hoag Orthopedics, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to higher education, research and community outreach founded by Hoag Orthopedic Institute physicians, has announced five new fellows for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The fellows will be completing their fellowship in either arthroplasty, surgical spine or orthopedic sports medicine.
“We are proud to welcome this exceptional group of fellows to Hoag Orthopedic Institute,” said Vance Gardner, MD, Medical Director of Hoag Orthopedics. “Our fellowship program is designed to provide rigorous, hands-on training alongside innovative research opportunities. These physicians represent the future of orthopedic care, and we are excited to support their growth as they contribute to advancing clinical excellence and improving patient outcomes in our community.”
The 2025-2026 Hoag Orthopedic Institute fellows are:
Arthroplasty Hip & Knee:
- Marshall Fairres, MD – Dr. Fairres is a Southern California native who grew up in Norco, Calif. He completed his undergraduate studies at Arizona State University and medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He then returned to Southern California to complete his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, Calif. Outside of the hospital, Dr. Fairres enjoys the great outdoors, including hiking with his wife and dogs, snowboarding and exploring new places.
- Zachary Gapinski, MD – Dr. Gapinski was born and raised in Zionsville, Ind. He completed his undergraduate and medical school at Indiana University. He then moved to Orlando, Fla., to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. Outside of work, Dr. Gapinski enjoys spending time with his wife, Sonya, and daughter, Joesphine. He loves to ski and compete in triathlons. He actively supports the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts and all other Indiana sports teams.
Surgical Spine:
- Roman Rahmani, DO – Dr. Rahmani earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, where he served as chief resident during his final year. Dr. Rahmani’s clinical interests include degenerative spine pathology, minimally invasive techniques and the evolving role of endoscopic surgery in the cervical and lumbar spine. Originally from the Northeast, he is excited to advance his skills in a high-volume environment and continue contributing to the academic spine community. Outside of medicine, Dr. Rahmani is passionate about personal development, fitness, and exploring the California coast.
Orthopedic Sports Medicine:
- Henry Gass, MD – Dr. Gass was born and raised in Charlotte, N.C. He moved to Sewanee, Tenn., in 2006 where he completed his undergraduate studies while also playing football for the Tigers. He earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, followed by an orthopedic surgery internship at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia. After his internship, he was given the opportunity to serve in the fleet as a flight surgeon for a Marine Corps F-18 squadron, VMFA-312, stationed in Beaufort, S.C. After completing his service requirement, he again matched into orthopedic surgery, this time at Emory University in Atlanta. Outside of the hospital, you may find Dr. Gass enjoying being outdoors at the beach or the mountains and enjoying time with his family.
- Andrew Horn, MD – Dr. Horn was born and raised in Los Angeles, and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned both his doctor of medicine and master’s degrees from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Horn completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. In his free time, Dr. Horn enjoys playing golf and tennis, grilling, and—most importantly—spending time with his wife, Jackie, and their daughter, Sophia.
