HOI is the West Coast’s Leader in Joint Replacement Surgery and Orange County’s Leader in Spine Surgery and Procedures
Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI), one of the largest providers of orthopedic care in the nation, has celebrated its 15th anniversary. HOI is the West Coast’s leader in joint replacement surgery and Orange County’s leader in spine surgery and procedures, continually achieving superior outcomes and low complication rates.
Established in 2010 through a unique partnership between Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and a group of visionary Orange County orthopedic physicians, HOI is a specialty hospital that focuses exclusively on orthopedics and spine.
Four Orange County orthopedic surgeons, Carlos Prietto, M.D., James Cailloutte, M.D., Robert Gorab, M.D., and Alan Beyer, M.D, were the principle forces to organize and build HOI. In 15 years, HOI’s medical staff has grown to more than 80 orthopedic specialists and more than 300 dedicated clinicians.
“When HOI first opened its doors, the mission was clear: become a national leader in orthopedic care by providing superior outcomes, an unmatched patient experience and innovative approaches to care,” said Kim Mikes, MBA, RN, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “As we reflect on our journey, it’s clear we’ve not only met, but exceeded, that mission together.”
Over the last 15 years HOI has:
- Solidified its role as the West Coast’s leader in hip, knee and shoulder replacement and Orange County’s leader in spine surgery and procedures, continually achieving superior outcomes and low complication rates
- Earned recognition from CMS, US News & World Report, Healthgrades, Press Ganey and other organizations for our excellence
- Become a destination for minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries that have set new standards in patient recovery and satisfaction
- Expanded to an enterprise that includes a main hospital in Irvine and five surgery centers in Orange and Los Angeles counties that put the needs of the community, and patients, first
- Provided elite training to the next generation of orthopedic surgeons through Hoag Orthopedics’ fellowship program, with several alumni currently on HOI’s medical staff
- Achieved industry-leading patient satisfaction and engagement scores
HOI routinely gives back to the community by providing charitable care, volunteering for local high school sporting events, offering free community lectures and hosting educational events.
