About Dr. Robert C. Grumet
Dr. Grumet is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery. He specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee with a special emphasis in cartilage restorative procedures and arthroscopy.
Dr. Grumet grew up in Colorado before becoming a permanent resident of Southern California. He earned his bachelor’s of science with honors in biological sciences from the University of Southern California, where he graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Grumet also earned his medical degree from USC, where he was a dean’s scholar for the junior/senior curriculum. For his orthopedic residency, he trained at the University of California, Irvine. He completed his fellowship training at the prestigious Rush University Medical Center in Chicago under Drs. Bach, Cole, Romeo, Nicholson, Verma and Bush-Joseph.
While at Rush, Dr. Grumet participated as one of the team physicians for the Chicago Bulls and the White Sox. He currently works with Chapman University, Irvine High School, Crean Lutheran, USA Softball and the Women's Tennis Association. He has had extensive experience in caring for athletes at all levels.
Dr. Grumet has received many awards and honors including Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Award, and the Senior Resident Research Awards. He has contributed to the advancement of sports medicine through his research and has published extensively on topics including rotator cuff pathology and repair, shoulder instability, ACL reconstruction and revision and cartilage restoration. He also mentors the next generation of orthopedic sports medicine fellows as faculty on the Hoag Orthopedics Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Grumet is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, California Orthopaedic Association and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has also been honored as an Emerging Leader by the American Orthopaedic Association.
In his free time, Dr. Grumet enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and following both collegiate and professional athletics.
