Hoag Orthopedic Institute's Infection Prevention Program

Hoag Orthopedic Institute's Infection Prevention Program ensures patient safety by reducing the risk of acquiring and transmitting infections and provides a multidisciplinary approach to the surveillance, prevention, and control of infections acquired in the hospital or brought in from the community. Hoag Orthopedic Institute’s goal is to eliminate healthcare-acquired infection for the entire circle of patient care.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute Infection Prevention participates in community outreach programs, employee health programs, and hospital wide educational programs:

  • Surveillance, prevention and control of hospital-associated infections and drug resistant organisms
  • Investigate and control hospital outbreaks among patients
  • Develop and maintain infection prevention/control policies and procedures for all hospital departments
  • Educational programs to assure quality of patient care

What You Can do to Prevent Infection and Illness

  • Get vaccinated
  • Clean your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, throw the tissue in the trash after use and always clean your hands afterwards
  • Stay home when you are sick and remain at home until at least 24 hours after you are free of fever
