Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Spine Surgery Specialists Serving Orange County

When conservative, non-surgical approaches to spine issues causing back and neck pain fail to provide relief and improve mobility, or when there are serious conditions affecting the neck and back, surgery may become an option for treatment. At the Center for Spine at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, we have a collaborative team of specialists dedicated to patients with spinal disorders and chronic back pain. We are also committed to offering safe alternatives to traditional open surgery.

Because we leverage the expertise of multi-disciplinary specialists, innovative techniques, and the latest medical technology, the Center for Spine at Hoag Orthopedic Institute offers a range of surgical approaches, including minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive techniques can be used in a range of spine procedures, and are effective in not only treating an underlying condition, but also in improving pain symptoms and recoveries following surgery.

How Does Minimally Invasive Surgery Work?

As opposed to open surgery, minimally invasive approaches use small incisions to access areas of the spine. These smaller incisions reduce damage to tissues and muscles surrounding the spine. They also allow surgeons to perform surgery through specialized retractors. A tubular retractor, for example, consists of a series of expanding tubes that gradually and progressively dilate and separate tissue. Specialized instruments can then be used to perform surgery through the tubular retractor.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

The benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery include:
