About Dr. Stephen A. Mikulak

Dr. Mikulak attended high school in Hyannis, Massachusetts, where he earned an athletic scholarship to UC Berkeley for gymnastics. After being named Pac-10 Athlete of the year, earning All-American honors, and competing internationally for the USA national gymnastics team, Dr. Mikulak focused his attention on medical school.

At the University of Southern California, he received numerous prestigious academic scholarships and was named Alpha Omega Alpha honor society for his outstanding performance in medical school. To complete his training, Dr. Mikulak crossed town to UCLA where he completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and a subspecialty fellowship in Joint Replacement Surgery. He has published and presented extensive research projects.

Dr. Mikulak has been in private practice since finishing his training in 1998, and currently is a joint replacement and trauma specialist at California Orthopaedic Specialists in Newport Beach, CA. Dr. Mikulak also is an assistant clinical professor at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he instructs other orthopaedic surgeons in the latest techniques in trauma and joint replacement surgery.
He is currently investigating the use of minimally invasive knee replacement surgery, and newer long-lasting materials (ceramics and metals) that may improve the longevity of hip and knee replacements.

When not working, Dr. Mikulak enjoys playing golf, hockey, and softball. He also stays involved with children by coaching little league soccer and gymnastics.
