About Dr. John F. Cook

John F. Cook, Jr., M.D. is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who is also certified as having added qualifications in surgery of the hand. Dr. Cook has been a significant member of the Hoag orthopedic community since 1982, having been a past Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Hoag Hospital and a Past President of the Western Orthopedic Association, Orange County Chapter.

After graduating from Bowdoin College, Dr. Cook completed his medical degree at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. During his orthopedic residency at Mc Gill University Royal Victoria Hospital in Montréal, he sought special training in hand surgery at Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He then completed a Hand Surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

He is also accomplished in the field of medical-legal report writing.

Dr. Cook received a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Congress for “outstanding service to our community” during the Afghan Medvac project. He has participated in the USC School of Medicine’s orthopedic International Children’s Program, and continues to be involved in local service ventures.

On four separate occasions, Dr. Cook has been recognized by his peers with the Orange County Medical Association’s Physicians of Excellence award.
