New Center, Hoag Orthopedic Institute’s 6th, will focus on joint replacements, including use of Robotic Technology

In partnership with area orthopedic surgeons, Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) of Irvine, Calif., one of the largest providers of orthopedic and spine care in the U.S., has opened a new multi-million-dollar ambulatory surgery center in Aliso Viejo. The center’s first surgical cases are scheduled for early September.

The Hoag Orthopedic Institute Surgery Center Aliso Viejo, located at 15 Mareblu, Aliso Viejo, Calif., marks the sixth outpatient surgery center HOI operates in southern California. The other locations include Orange, Newport Beach, Mission Viejo, Beverly Hills and Marina del Rey, as well as its inpatient facility in Irvine.

The Aliso Viejo outpatient surgery center will focus on general musculoskeletal care, particularly sports medicine, outpatient hip and knee joint replacement, spine and pain management. The center will also feature advanced robotic technology to assist in joint replacement surgery.

More than 50 people will staff the center, including more than 38 orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other specialty medical providers. Dr. Michael J. Fitzpatrick, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, and Dr. Ajay Lalvani, an anesthesiologist, have been appointed the center’s Co-Medical Directors. They will oversee the center and its medical staff.

“The new center is the result of our orthopedic surgeons’ mission to serve south Orange County residents with better access to advanced orthopedic care on an outpatient basis,” said Kim Mikes, CEO of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. “To develop this project, we partnered with like-minded physicians who share in our model and philosophy of providing value-based care with high-quality outcomes.”

The new center features 10,000 square-feet of space and four operating room suites, space large enough to accommodate the new robotic technology. It also features two extended stay suites, a lobby and plenty of designated parking for patients and their families.

“This center is as advanced as they come,” said Dr. Fitzpatrick. “The evolution of many orthopedic procedures from inpatient to outpatient, such as total joint replacements for knee and hip, have been pioneered by many of my colleagues at HOI and this center will make it more accessible to our growing south county residents to receive some of the best orthopedic care in the nation.”

Dr. Fitzpatrick said since high quality outcomes can be achieved in the outpatient setting for orthopedic procedures like joint replacement, it means that patients can save on costs, recuperate at home and begin their rehabilitation to get their mobility back faster.

The outpatient surgery center building is owned and was developed for HOI by IRA Capital of Irvine.
