Doctors and medical staff from Hoag Orthopedic Institute will be volunteering and spending their time throughout the competition ensuring that the participants and attendees have a fun and safe experience.

The Olympic-style athletic competition for Jewish teens from around the world promotes on-going Jewish, athletic, educational and cultural year-round programs for youth in Jewish Community Centers and Y’s. Some of the Olympic-style sport competitions included are swimming, soccer, and baseball, and more than 6,000 teens, ages 13 to 16, participate in the JCC Maccabi Games each summer.

The Maccabi Movement began in 1895 when the first all-Jewish sports club was formed in Constantinople. The first world Maccabiah Games were held in Israel in 1932. Now, this two-week competition takes place every four years and has featured many world class Jewish athletes, including Mark Spitz and Jason Lezak (swimming), Mitch Gaylord (gymnastics), and ESPN anchor Dour Gottlieb (basketball).

The games are co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Center Association of North America, Maccabi World Union, Maccabi Canada, and Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel.
